Prerolls

On an infused pack, read the milligrams per serving, not the percentage: that is the number that decides your evening. Plain ones are the cheap way to meet a strain.

Why does a preroll burn down one side?

Several things cause it, and only some of them are ours. The most reliable culprit is the paper itself: the glued seam runs the whole length as a strip of double thickness and low permeability, and because a smouldering coal is limited by how much oxygen reaches it through the paper, that side gets less air and falls behind. It is the same physics the self-extinguishing bands on cigarettes are built on.

Then the fill. Whole flower, ground evenly and packed at a consistent density along the whole length, burns at one rate. Shake and trim — the fragments that fall off during processing, and the leaf, stem and small bud pieces trimmed away — are finer and more varied in particle size, so they burn through faster and less evenly. Nobody has compared trim against flower directly, and there is no evidence they burn hotter.

After that: uneven packing, flower dried unevenly along its length, an uneven light, wind, and — most often of all — drawing too hard or from one side. Miami humidity counts here, which is why they come sealed and are worth keeping that way: an open pack left out overnight takes water on unevenly, and one side starts burning slower than the other.

Single, multi-pack or blunt?

A single is the cheapest way to meet a strain. A multi-pack is for the strain you have already met — it works out lower per gram. Blunts last longer mostly because there is more in them: an average preroll holds about a third of a gram, a blunt usually one to two. The tobacco leaf does burn slower than paper — it is four to five times heavier per unit of area, carries humectants, and unlike rolling paper is not treated with a burn accelerant. The two have never been measured against each other directly. What has been measured: with the same amount of cannabis, blunts delivered roughly half the THC to the bloodstream and more carbon monoxide.

Questions people ask

How much stronger are infused prerolls?

Enough that half of one is a whole one. The pack gives milligrams of cannabinoids per serving and the number of servings — and for a single, the serving is the preroll. Those milligrams are the figure to go by; the flower percentage on its own will understate what is in there.

Can I relight a half-smoked preroll?

Yes, and most people do. It will taste harsher than the first half, because what you are relighting is a burnt end — tap the ash off first and it is noticeably better.

How much flower is in one?

It is printed on every pack, and the usual sizes run from half a gram to a gram and a half. An infused one weighs the same but hits harder, which is why the milligrams matter more than the weight.
